A Bernese Mountain Dog is not for everyone. Bringing one into your life requires a sustantial commitment of both your time and money. Aside from their relatively short life span (a little over 7 years) and various health issues (dysplasia, cancer), they shed and make a bit of a mess around the water bowl (although they are considered a "dry mouth" breed). On the other hand, for people who can tolerate something less than an immaculate house and offer a Bernese Mountain Dog a good life, they are wonderful, loving companions.
